About us

Action Music Tanzania is an organization which was formed in January 2011 by the Tanzania music teachers who attended the Global Music Pilot Campus last year at the University of Dar Es Salaam. After the Campus all Tanzania music teachers who attended the GMA training held a two day meeting hosted in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at the UDSM with the aim of adapting the GMA concept of teaching music for Tanzania. The meeting, which was attended by music teachers from Zanzibar, Dodoma and Dar es Salaam, agreed to form the organization Action Music Tanzania and agreed on a plan of action. Tanzania as other African countries has a great number of talented musicians who have been playing music for years without getting to the heart of it because they do not know how to organize and perform music in a professional way.

It has been difficult for them to understand what they play, they just play because they see other people playing, they are not even able to write and read music, so how are they going to teach others? How are they going to transmit their knowledge to the coming generations?

Action Music Tanzania was formed to address this problem by teaching Tanzanian musicians the basic skills in how to organize and perform music in a professional way. Using the knowledge gained from the GMA workshops they now have the ability and inspiration to disseminate it to other talented Tanzanian musicians.
